Lori's Archive Lori Lynn Lomeli was born in Piqua, Ohio on
December 22, 1958, one of five children. In 1965 her parents, Gene
and Nancy Ray, moved their family to Torrance, California. At the age of eight, she was given her first Hula Hoop® by her late grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Ray. She became fascinated with the Hula Hoop®, and
after many competitions, losing only a few, she became determined to improve her skills by consistent daily practice at Victor Park in Torrance. At the age of 14 she won the National Championship at
Universal Studios. Her hard work continued to pay off when she beat out 3 million kids to take the title Hula Hoop® Champion of the World, which was recorded in the 1975 edition of the Guiness Book of World
Records. |
